Where to Find the 2010 Tour

Sunday July 18 – Millennium Park to Zion (45 miles)
The Tour rolls out July 18 from Chicago's spectacular Millennium Park, kicking off a day of tree-mendous family-friendly events at the city's summer social epicenter. The Park's unique architecture, monumental sculptures and landscape design make it a recreation destination for Chicago tourists and residents alike.
From Millennium Park the Tour hugs the lakefront north to Zion. Stops at Lincoln Park and Illinois Beach State Park show off some of the city's oldest trees and best views. Scratch the surface of Zion and you'll find a religious faith healer at the city's roots and Kevin Costner guiding its future.

Monday July 19 – Zion to Rockford (80 miles)
The road to Rockford is a study in contrasts. We'll enjoy the natural beauty of Moraine Hills State Park on our way to Crystal Lake, home to hi-tech aerial imaging experts RFP Mapping LLC, who provide arborists and municipal planners with sophisticated mapping tools. Finish the day in Rockford, the Forest City, and visit some of the most beautiful parks and gardens in Illinois (http://www.ci.rockford.il.us/about/index.cfm?id=342)

Tuesday July 20 – Rockford to Galena (95 miles)
Soak up some of the state's best scenery, with lush rolling hills, quaint small towns and bucolic rural views as we make our way to Galena along the historic Stagecoach Trail. Galena combines history (85% of the town is listed on the National Historic Register) with nostalgia, as veterans of the 2001 Tour des Trees revisit one of their favorite destinations. At day's end we'll shuttle to Dubuque, IA to dine and unwind, courtesy of Utility Lines Construction Services Inc.

Wednesday July 21 – Galena to Moline (90 miles)
We'll follow the Mississippi River Trail south to Moline, along bicycle-friendly roads and multi-use pathways to experience firsthand the Mississippi River's natural wonders, transportation systems, recreational facilities and cultural heritage.

Thursday July 22 – Moline to Princeton
Choose your route!

  • Cycle along the scenic Hennepin Canal Parkway, on the way to Princeton, whose rich cultural history and diverse architectural heritage date back to 1831. (70 miles). Or…
  • Make a break for Peoria, home of Mississippi Valley STIHL, by way of the Rock Island National Recreation Trail in central Illinois. This All-American City situated on the scenic Illinois River is well worth a visit. Once you've "played in Peoria", catch a shuttle to rejoin the Tour in Princeton.  (95 miles)

Friday July 23 – Princeton to Naperville (80 miles)
The home stretch! With the wind at our backs the Tour sets its sights on Naperville (home of the TREE Fund) and a well-deserved celebration dinner at the Morton Arboretum's beautiful Thornhill Education Center.

Saturday July 24 – Fermi Lab loop to Morton Arboretum (30 miles)
Fermilab is:
a) the only U.S. laboratory dedicated to high-energy physics
b) the best spot in DuPage County to view bison (!)
c) a great place to spend the day on a bike
d) all of the above! (http://www.fnal.gov/pub/visiting/recreation/index.html)
The 2010 STIHL Tour des Trees finishes with a 1-day ride featuring two of Chicagolands's premier research facilities, Fermilab and the Morton Arboretum. Local and one-day riders are invited to join us for the day and catch the spirit of the Tour des Trees as we raise awareness of the need for tree research and professional tree care. We'll finish the day and the 2010 Tour with a grand entrance and closing ceremonies at the Morton Arboretum, site of the International Tree Climbing Competition.  $75 fee for day-riders covers lunch, a T-shirt entrance to the Morton Arboretum and a donation to tree research.
