Saturday, July 18 (optional warm-up ride)

  • New Jersey Chapter of ISA volunteers and veteran Tour riders have invited the 2009 Tour des Trees group for a warm-up ride and evening accommodations in the Garden State before the "official" start the next morning.

Sunday, July 19 (30-40 miles, plus mileage from New Jersey accommodations to Central Park)

Monday, July 20 (60-70 miles)

Tuesday, July 21 (60-70 miles)

  • Departing Waterbury, CT, riders will head toward the state's capitol, Hartford, and then north through the countryside to Springfield, MA. Opportunities for public education and tree planting events exist in both Hartford, CT and Springfield, MA with the help of the CTPA, Massachusetts Tree Wardens, local tree care companies and utilities.

Wednesday, July 22 (approx. 70 miles)

  • Moving north along the Connecticut River Valley from Springfield, cyclists will pedal most of the day through rural Massachusetts. Then the group will cross into Vermont to Brattleboro where a tree planting event, in memory of Oscar Stone, is planned courtesy of the Vermont Urban Forest Council.

Thursday, July 23 (approx. 70 miles)

  • After its brief, but memorable Vermont visit, the Tour will depart from Brattleboro and meander through the beautiful scenery and terrain of southern New Hampshire to the city of Nashua.

Friday, July 24 (60-70 miles)

  • To honor one of the founding organizations of the TREE Fund, the main body of the Tour will leave Nashua and head to TCIA headquarters in Londonderry, NH for a public education and tree planting event that morning.
  • At the same time, a smaller group of Tour cyclists will take on the challenge of speeding up to Durham, NH where the USDA Forest Service plans a special tree planting event in honor of the late Dr. Alex Shigo. These "Challenge Riders" would then pedal into the fifth New England state of the 2009 Tour to participate in a Maine Arborist Association event in York, ME.
  • Meanwhile, the main group will head south to the Boston, MA area for an afternoon event to be coordinated by the Massachusetts Tree Wardens. The "Challenge Riders" will join up with the main group in Boston late in the day for the Tour's last official evening on the road.

Saturday, July 25 (approx 50 miles)

  • Departing Boston in the relatively calm traffic of a Saturday morning, the Tour will quickly head south to Providence, Rhode Island, host city for the ISA Annual Conference and Trade Show. A noontime parade lap into Roger Williams Park and a grand finale celebration will be timed to take place between the men's and women's ITCC Master's Challenge competitions during the ISA Field Days. For this reason, we expect the 2009 TREE Fund Tour des Trees' grand finale celebration to be well attended and publicized.
