America’s Largest Fundraiser for Trees Stops in Tillamook

100 Cyclists of the STIHL Tour des Trees Arrive in Seaside

WHAT: The STIHL Tour des Trees, a weeklong 500-mile cycling event held each year to benefit the Tree Research and Education Endowment Fund (TREE Fund), arrives in Tillamook on Monday, Aug. 6 to plant a tree in Tillamook’s Goodspeed Park.

Certified arborist and veteran Tour cyclist Warren Hoselton will also present a free educational program for young audiences, focusing on trees and photosynthesis. Children in the audience will be invited to help the Tour cyclists plant a tree in the park and will receive a copy of the book I Can Name 50 Trees Today! – a gift from the TREE Fund and Bartlett Tree Experts. Additional copies of the book have been donated to the Tillamook County libraries as part of the STIHL Tour des Trees educational outreach program. The Goodspeed Park event will conclude with photo opportunities with the Tour cyclists and refreshments provided by Tillamook County Creamery and other local merchants. Stimson Lumber Company, which has a mill in Tillamook, is an underwriter of the Tour’s visit to the community. The Tour will depart Goodspeed Park via Miller Avenue to view one of the area’s “significant trees,” a Weeping Elm at 314 Miller Avenue. From Tillamook, the riders will cycle to Grand Ronde.

WHO: The STIHL Tour des Trees cyclists come from across the U.S. and Canada each year to fundraise for the TREE Fund. With cyclists from professional backgrounds ranging from accountants to arborists who have a shared passion for trees and the environment, the Tour has now become America’s largest fundraiser for tree research.
